APRIL
We´ve just come down the mountains after spending six days at
the highest bit we could get to on the Picos de Europa (Fuente De) where
you get the cable car to go even further up. We have been really lucky
with the weather, on the coast it was like a lovely English summer,
up in the mountains it was cooler, especially at night, but mostly sunny
days. Today is boiling hot.The mountains were amazing, with snow still
on them. We managed some good walks and some cycling. The spanish don´t
seem to have come across the ´tag-along´ bike before, so
Milo and Dom attract curious stares.
The camper van is going well, no problems so far. It is a real home from
home - we managed to stash so much stuff in it. It is real luxury camping
for us with fridge, proper cooker, chairs, tables, beds etc. The boys
are loving it all, so far no comments
about wanting to go home! They are making friends as we go along, and
became particularly fond of the three pure white husky dogs up in the
mountain campsite (Alaska,Baja and Najar). There were very few tourists
when we first arrived, and certainly few other English ones, no-one speaks
English, so our Spanish skills are being stretched to the limit (we are
managing quite well)! The peace quiet disappeared on 1st May when the
hordes came out, it must be a national holiday here.
