The Redcliff Mycological Research Institute (RMRI)
Unearthing the cultural, culinary and philosophical potential of fungi.
The Redcliff Mycological Research Institute (RMRI) was a nine month long project by artist Dominic Thomas in collaboration with STATION, the artists’ research and development unit based in the old fireboat station at Bristol docks. The RMRI laboratory is located 50 metres from STATION in the old donkey stable which is part of Redcliff caves. Here, Dominic carried out experiments and research into the culture, cultivation and cooking of mushrooms and other fungi. During the spring and autumn he lead a number of field trips at various locations throughout the country in search of the real and metaphorical fruits of the fungal world.
