Brewery Mushroom Trials
In October 2013 I started a series of mushroom cultivation trials with Stroud Brewery. The trials were carried out in order to determine the viability of using waste products from the brewing process as growing substrates for oyster mushrooms. Spent grain (malted barley) and hopsĀ where mixed in different ratios with mushroom spawn and and incubated over a number of weeks. Whilst I did manage to produce mushrooms from the trials it was not a total success. It did reveal interesting results that I hope to use in future development of the MycoCycle Mushroom business.
